Master Clubs Polka Dot night!

Every Wednesday night, Cornerstone Baptist Church has Master Clubs which is our Awana-like ministry for children. Master Clubs is a program that focuses on teaching children the Bible, while helping them to apply and "live-out" those truths. The photo above was taken on "Polka-Dot" night where students and teachers donned all kinds of polka-dot attire. They are, definitely, a lively bunch.

Children's Christmas Program

We recently had our Children's Christmas program and it was wonderful! My wife, Sally, and my son Jake directed the program. Beth Larson was our costume director and we had several ladies curling hair and painting-on beards. The program was called "Through The Eyes Of A Child" and presented the Christ Child through the eyes of four different children. Thanks to all who had a part in the production. May you all have a Merry Christmas!

Christmas Cantata!

Our Christmas Cantata "Celebrate His Name! Proclaim His Birth!" went exceptionally well. We performed the Cantata on a Sunday night and the following Monday night to a very full church each night. Mr. Jake Jones directed the cantata and Miss Becca Townsend accompanied the choir. Mr. Tim Carr narrated the cantata. After each performance, our church ladies (and maybe even some guys) provided copious amounts of delicious sandwiches and seasonal snacks. The fellowship was wonderful. Thank you for all the effort. Teen Fellowship

Our teens meet together one Sunday a month for a fellowship lunch followed by ministry at Orchard Grove convalescent home. After the home, the teens sing and play games. Mr. Sousa and Ralph and Joyce Smith hosted the fellowship. Mr. Bob Hauta drove the bus and "reffed" the games.

Bible-Quiz saga!

Well, armed with an abundance of snacks and a greater amount of excitement, our teens headed out to the Fall Bible-quizzing only to fall short of their destination because of an uncooperative brake caliper that got a little overheated. Mr. Hauta pulled the bus off the highway after smelling that peculiar "brake" smell to determine the problem. Lo and behold! They pulled right up in front of an auto repair shop that took the bus right in. Fortunately (I think!), there was a McDonalds right next to the garage, so the teens were quite happy. Once the garage determined they couldn't get the needed part, the teens came back home with no further problems. Although our young people were a bit disappointed, they had great attitudes. And they still got their Dunkin Donut hot chocolate the next day.

Teen Bible-quizzing!

Our teens headed out for Bible-quizzing, hosted by Immanuel Baptist Church in Brockton, MA. They have been studying Psalms 77 and 78 for the past six weeks. They will compete will several other like-minded churches in their knowledge of the passage. Jake and Lauren Jones, the teen leaders, are with the teens, along with Bob and Sarah Hauta (Bob is driving the bus), and other parents. They are "well stocked" with goodies for the trip. I'll let you know how they do in the next post!

Laura Neal's shower

The ladies of Cornerstone Baptist Church had a baby shower for Laura Neal. Laura is the wife of David Neal who was, formerly, the assistant pastor of Cornerstone, but now is the senior pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Harvard, IL. Pastor Neal and Laura are due to have their first child at the end of December. Congratulations Pastor and Laura! We love you!

Our First Missions Conference

We recently had our first "mini"-missions conference! Dr. Bruce McAllister was the key-note speaker and preached powerful messages from John chapter 4. Our two newest missionary families, the Dan Baker family and the Steve Diachenko family, were with us and preached and presented their perspective ministries to our church. The Bakers and Diachenkos are both going to North Queensland, Australia. While both families will focus on reaching the lost in Australia, Steve will be church planting and Dan will be training local men to pastor churches throughout Australia.

Pastor David Neal and his wife Laura were also with us. Pastor Neal is the Pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Harvard (not Massachusetts) but Illinois. Pastor Neal preached the final message of our conference on Sunday afternoon.

Many thanks for everyone who worked so hard toward the success of this conference. Many of our folks volunteered to help. Special thanks to our Social Committee and the families who hosted the missionaries. We are looking forward, already, to next year's conference.

Congratulations on being baptized!

We had a Baptismal service at Anchor Baptist Church, pastored by my friend Larry Richmond. Seventeen of our folks followed the Lord in believer's baptism after asking God to save them. It was a blessed service attended by many friends and family members. When our church "grows-up", we'll have a baptistry too!

Fundamental?

Fundamental is a word with which we choose to describe ourselves at Cornerstone Baptist Church. Because the word has different meanings and connotations to different people, I think it would be good to define the word as it pertains to our particular ministry. Although some people use the words "radical", "legalistic" and "mean-spirited" as synonymns for Christian Fundamentalism, we choose to embrace a definition like the one in Dr. David Beale's book, "In Pursuit Of Purity", where Dr. Beale writes on page three, "Ideally, a Christian Fundamentalist is one who desires to reach out in love and compassion to people, believes and defends the whole Bible as the absolute, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God, and stands committed to the doctrine and practice of holiness". Later in that same paragraph he writes, "Fundamentalism is not a philosophy of Christianity, nor is it essentially an interpretation of the Scriptures. It is not even a mere literal exposition of the Bible. The essence of Fundamentalism goes much deeper than that-it is the unqualified acceptance of and obedience to the Scriptures." Now, I understand that some have given "Christian Fundamentalism" a bad name, (and I'm not talking about the Islamic extremists) but that should cause us to stand against unbiblical behavior, not the priciples of fundamentalism as described by Dr. Beale. We, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, believe the Bible to be the supreme and final authority by which all human conditions, creeds and opinions shall be measured. We strive for the purity of Bible-doctrine. We exercize ourselves unto Godliness and endeavor daily to be holy. Our desire is to glorify God, evangelize the lost, and edify fellow believers in Christ. Right now, those things are some characteristics of Christian Fundamentalists. Until someone comes up with a better term, I guess we'll stick with it.

Our up and coming teens were welcomed into the teen group with quite a flurry of activities promoting teamwork and just plain fun.

Mr. Jake set up an obstacle course at the Smith residence and the teens had to work their way through it.
